My Zen Place

I didn’t know if I should write about this or not but why not. I have a place of zen that I have been retreating to in my city. It is actually in the unincorporated part of Hayward. The place is Lone Tree Cemetery. It was founded in 1868 and is the final resting place of a lot of important people that a lot of our streets and stuff are named after.

It is interesting to see the resting places of some famous people in my city but my zen place is this little, quiet area that has no graves near but is under the what is considered the Lone Tree remaining from when the cemetery opened. According to the plaque and legend, it was a little baby tree planted there in 1870:

They have created a beautiful and peaceful area underneath this tree, when I am there I just sit on this bench in silence and look at the waterfalls and have a lot of zen:

When I can’t go to the beach and look at the waves, this is my real zen place I have going up there a couple of times a week lately. I always feel better and able to clear my mind when I sit on that bench and look at this peaceful setting.
