Those Kinky Romans

A Fresco that survived the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, the destroyer of the city of Pompeii

I am a happy person as the museums are reopening in San Francisco. I love museums and I am member of a couple. I went to see an exhibit called “Last Supper in Pompeii. It was artifacts that survived the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD.

As I was walking around, I saw a sign that said “Adult Section”. Hold the fuck on, I am at a major museum looking at a major international exhibit and they had a sign up that said “Adult Section”.

Anyway, I remember that the Ancient Romans were some pretty kinky folks and I guess these Frescos were their version of porn.

I did a little research and I found out that Pompeii was a pretty kinky place. It seems like they were not prudes about sex but they rejoiced it in both private and public. I read this:

“Pompeii’s economy thrived on more than 40 brothels, the most famous of which was named “Lupanare Grande,” translated today as “pleasure house.” The rooms in these brothels were often cramped and dim, with a small straw mattress positioned beneath a piece of pornographic artwork hung on the wall. Despite their appearances, it would be misleading to classify these brothels as the seedy underbelly of Pompeii’s economy. Rather, they existed on a highly public and unashamed platform, alongside the forum and communal bath houses, both of which were important sites of a larger (public) sex system.”

Some say that Pompeii was the original city and they lived in a world of promiscuity and because of it, the Roman Gods’ got pissed and the Gods’ decided to destroy the city with the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

I don’t know if that is the case but some of their porn survived.
